Lesson 5 of 6 · 10 min

Talking to your team without causing panic

After this lesson: Have the AI conversation with your team honestly and calmly.

The thing that scares most experienced people isn't the technology — it's the unspoken fear of being quietly replaced, or left behind while someone else gets the training. If you don't name that, it festers as quiet resistance.

Say the quiet part out loud

Be direct about why you're bringing AI in and what it means for jobs. Vague reassurance ("don't worry, nothing will change") is worse than useless — people can tell it's empty. A specific commitment they can hold you to is what builds trust.

A commitment worth making

  • We're adopting AI to remove drudgery, not to remove people.
  • Time it saves goes into better work, growth and learning — not a layoff spreadsheet.
  • Everyone gets the training to use the new tools.
  • A human stays accountable for every customer-facing decision.
  • We'll be open about what AI does here.
