726 tests green is real and measured; the assembly itself was superseded before its first governance gate (G1) closed.
What would prove or disprove it further
What would prove full assembly: G1 actually closing, with the GPU-OS, inference engine, and FBL wired together and tested as one integrated system rather than three tested components sitting next to each other. That didn't happen under the Magnus name — the project was superseded by the larger NovaOS synthesis about a month later, which inherited Magnus's assembly instinct and its honesty correction (one real GPU, not a fantasy of thirty-two) but is its own separate, later claim with its own verdict.
The evidence — full reasoning behind the verdict
Verdict: partly-proven. The measured part is real: 726 tests green on one actual RTX 3090, split across the GPU-OS, inference engine, and function-block language — not aspirational, actually run. But the thing Magnus set out to test — whether scattered research trees could be assembled into one unified product — wasn't completed on its own terms: the first governance gate (G1) was still in flight when the project was superseded, and the report is explicit that having three components individually pass tests did not mean they were unified, wiring already-tested pieces together surfaced integration problems none of them had shown alone.
It landed here because the project measured components, not the whole. 726 green tests is strong evidence the parts worked; it isn't evidence the assembly worked, and the file doesn't claim otherwise — it names "assembly is its own kind of work" as one of the two things it learned, rather than rounding "components pass" up to "product assembled."
Before the twelve donor research trees were ever named as donor trees, someone had to try assembling them once — quickly, imperfectly — just to find out which parts were real.
What it was
Magnus (/magnus/, /magnusbackup/) was the first attempt to pull years of
scattered work — a GPU operating system, an inference engine, a frontend platform,
a function-block language, a GPU-native language, a cognitive DSL, a JS widget
layer, a binary IPC protocol, a blockchain, roughly 250,000 lines of code in
total — into one unified product. It ran a two-stream model: one stream doing live
GPU-side R&D, the other assembling components that had already been tested
elsewhere, both moving through an 8-gate ISO-style governance process.
What we built
ResearchOver roughly a week (4–10 April 2026), the assembly stream produced a measured,
run result: 726 tests green on a real RTX 3090, split roughly 379 across the
GPU-OS, 178 across the inference engine, and 169 across the function-block
language — not aspirational, actually executed. A first governance gate (G1) was
in flight when the project was superseded. Scale: roughly 10,470 files and 2.9GB,
plus an 882MB pre-reboot snapshot preserved in magnusbackup.
What we learned — including the honest negative(s)
- Assembly is its own kind of work. Having 726 passing tests across three components did not mean the components were unified — wiring already-tested pieces together surfaced integration problems none of them had individually.
- Superseded is not failed. Magnus never finished its first gate, but it proved the assembly instinct was right; what changed later was the discipline around it, not the ambition.
Where it went / status
Superseded roughly a month later by the much larger NovaOS synthesis, but Magnus's two contributions carried forward directly: the instinct that scattered research trees can and should be assembled into one product, and the honesty correction — one real GPU, not a fantasy — that every later project inherited.
What is still open — kept visible
The honest edges, next to the wins. This is what turns 🔬 into 🟢 — honestly.
- Magnus itself was superseded, not completed — a first governance gate (G1) was still in-flight when the project moved on.
- The two-stream model surfaced how much already-tested code still had to be wired together, not just collected — assembly turned out to be its own kind of work.
